After the begging, pleading, and insulting in my last communication, I was just SURE there'd be at least 25-30 people at the SCAGA meeting. But did we get 25 people? No. Did we get 20 people? No. Did 15 people show up? No.
Nine.
Count 'em, nine people.
Well, ten actually, but one of them didn't really count - Steve showed up, said "hello" and did his usual disappearing act. (Watch this space for an actual appearance of Stephen Schneider at a Space Coast Area Go Association meeting starting some time in October.)
So, the rest of us had a fine time anyway.
Jake basically beat everyone, but he's such a nice guy and such a good teacher that no one really minded. I think Greg got some good instruction in his game with Jake.
Attila brought one of his new Hungarian buddies, Lajos Nagy, who is picking up the game quite well (the other member of the Magyar contingent, Tomas [pronounced Toe-mahsh, not Tom-ass] Kasza couldn't come this week, but was up in Daytona with us last week meeting some of the "regulars."
The two docs, Jeff and Bart, were in fine form as was young Mr. Eric Lavigne who gave yours truly a very sound trouncing.
And, of course, the ever reliable Fred and Ginnie made the long haul down from Daytona to grace our presence.
Sadly, we say goodbye to our very good friend Yuji Sano. We are glad his wife finally had a chance to join him in Florida, but we will miss him greatly. Not only is Yuji a very strong Go player, but an outstanding teacher and -- most importantly -- just one very, very nice person. We will miss his gracious presence and quiet teaching. I hope that someday our
paths may cross again.
Meanwhile, I will stop harassing all you nice folks about coming to the games. Many of you replied to my last e-mail explaining why you couldn't attend and it was good to hear from you. I know you all have lives (well, except for Schneider) and busy schedules and circumstances which keep you from coming. I also know that you would come if you could, so I'll ease up and go back to just notifying and reporting.
Thanks to those who came to the game and my regards to those of you who couldn't come but take the time to read these messages.
