The Space Coast Go Association

Subject: You asked for it!

And now, you are going to get it!

Mark your calendars: October 19th for the first-ever Space Coast Area Go Association Tournament.

Yes, that's right. Dan and Attila assure me that they have a ranking system developed. Steve is checking into getting our tournament AGA sanctioned. So far, the tournament will be at the usual time at the usual place: 2:00 p.m. at the Merritt Island Barnes & Noble. But, if any of you know or can get us a better venue (church, school, meeting room, social room, civic center, Elk's club, etc.) let me know and we'll make arrangements.

Okay, now here's the catch: In order to play in the tournament you mustfirst be ranked so we can assign an equitable handicap to each player. In order to be ranked, you have to actually come to a club game and play. Either SCAGA or Fun Coast. More is better, but you have to do it at least once.

Also, we will probably be using clocks for the tournament, so it might be a good idea for you to come to a game (or 3) and practice using them and getting used to them. Otherwise, they could be a distraction when it comes time for "the real thing." Your first chance is this (fifth) Saturday, the 31st of August, 2:00 p.m. B&N, Merritt Island.

Oh. One more thing. Since we have many members who are not native English speakers, we have to establish a common language. We have folks who speak Korean, Romanian, Chinese, Hungarian and no one knows what language

Schneider speaks since he never stays long enough to talk with anyone.

Anyway, the common language of Go is Japanese. It would serve us all well to try to learn the more common Go terms in Japanese since that is what is used in virtually all sanctioned Go games. So, I am attaching a glossary of common Go terms that I compiled from several sources. I know I have sent this out to several of you before, but I don't remember who got it and who didn't, so here it is again. If you have corrections/suggestions, e-mail me and I'll incorporate them into the next version.

Study your Japanese go. Come to a meeting and get rated. Then come to THE TOURNAMENT!
