... and nobody came?
Well, it was almost that way as 2 o'clock rolled around and there I was all by my lonesome. But then, ever-reliable Fred & Ginnie showed up and then... nobody.
And here I am grousing about last week when there were only 4 people! (n.b.: For the sake of accuracy, last week Greg Grant did make an appearance but did not stay to play. Also, my reference to "Paul" should have been "Jeffrey." But this is not as faux a pax as it may seem since I did in my far, far distant past [high school] know a Paul Ehrlich, so substituting his name for Jeff's is not so terribly difficult to understand. Is it?).
At any rate, the three of us were having as marvelous a time as it is possible to have when there are three people playing Go, when up comes this dazzling, young beauty with a smile to light up all of Barnes & Noble asking "Is it okay if I watch?" Well, let me say that Fred and I could hardly get the words out fast enough to ensure that the charming Miss Kristen Montecalvo (as we subsequently found out) did not escape our evil, old-man clutches (Fred's a tad less so, since Ginnie was right there). Kristen had been introduced to our wonderful game through the movie "A Wonderful Mind" and stayed long enough to learn to play, get some instruction, and ultimately even to beat Fred on a 9-line board (with a handicap, of course).
She is a student and an aspiring performer, but promised to try to come back to one of our games (yeah, sure, right... the check's in the mail) which would be an absolute delight since she brightened up our session just by her presence.
Well, I hope this is the springtime doldrums when everyone is on vacation or dreading the upcoming time change and that next session we can get a decent turnout again. Otherwise, you'll have to listen to my interminable whining.
